Jim Hudson to give back to the organization that has given him so much

Jim Hudson MGDC, President of Hudson Design Group in Moncton, was named President of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) at their Annual General Meeting in Vancouver in late April. He will serve as president for two years. The GDC is the national advocate, voice and resource for Canada’s graphic design profession.

“The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada has been and will continue to be an essential part of my growth as a graphic designer and communications professional,” said Hudson. “The energy and inspiration that comes from collaborating with other designers has allowed me to gain from and give back to this profession over the years.”

Hudson has previously served the GDC at local, regional and national levels, most recently serving as the Society’s national Corporate Secretary for the past four years.

“I believe as the industry evolves and as technology becomes more and more complex, we still need to educate the next generation of designers of the fundamentals of clear and effective communication,” he said. “While the mediums may change, identifying your target audience and communicating with them using straight forward and relevant messages does not.”

A graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design in 1981, Hudson has more than 29 years experience in conceptual development, communications and graphic design for regional, national and international clients. He began his professional design and advertising career in Halifax at Bruce Law & Associates Advertising, before taking a position as a senior designer with the Nova Scotia Department of Government Services.

Late in 1983, Jim returned to Moncton and opened his own firm Hudson Design Group. Today, the firm continues to prosper and offers a full range of design, advertising and public relations services.

“The GDC has helped me be a better designer, manager and entrepreneur,” said Hudson. “Those who know me best know it’s not in my nature to be at the centre of attention, but it’s something I’m willing to do to give back to the organization I’ve gained so much from.”
